WHAT IS THE N.B.C.S.F.?
The NBCSF,
an Oregon non-profit public-benefit corporation that holds IRS
501 (c) (3) tax-free status, has assets of approximately $3,100,000. Starting
with 2 awards of $1000 each in 1991, more than $1,180,000 has been
or will be awarded to NBHS graduates of 1982 to 2007.
HOW IS IT FINANCED?
The Fund is qualified to accept tax-deductible donations of money
and/or property. Assets are
invested, with income only disbursed as educational awards.
Gifts of
any amount are welcome at any time and may be acknowledged or
anonymous. A notification is sent to the family if the gift is
a memorial. The Fund also acknowledges gifts recognizing
special occasions, individuals, and organizations.
Since its
founding in 1990, the NBCSF has received contributions from more
than 1,650 individuals and organizations in amounts from a $2.00
memorial to a gift of more than $700,000 in real estate.
HOW DOES A STUDENT APPLY?
Applications are available
annually mid-December to the April deadline (usually the first
Friday) online at
www.nbcsf.org, at the NBHS Student Services and N B public
library. A candidate completes only one form to be eligible for all
programs for which he/she might qualify.
WHAT ARE THE SELECTION CRITERIA?
The Selection Committee may
consider one or more of the following: ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, SPECIAL
MERIT and FINANCIAL NEED. Some awards also have very specific
additional requirements.
WHEN ARE
AWARDS ANNOUNCED?
Current NBHS seniors are
notified at the NBHS spring awards ceremony. Past NBHS graduate
awardees are notified through the mail during the following week.
All other applicants are notified of their status within the
following week.
