          WHAT IS THE N.B.C.S.F.?

The NBCSF, an Oregon non-profit public-benefit corporation that holds IRS 501 (c) (3) tax-free status, has assets of approximately $3,100,000.  Starting with 2 awards of $1000 each in 1991, more than $1,180,000 has been or will be awarded to NBHS graduates of 1982 to 2007.

          HOW IS IT FINANCED?

The Fund is qualified to accept tax-deductible donations of money and/or property.  Assets are invested, with income only disbursed as educational awards.

Gifts of any amount are welcome at any time and may be acknowledged or anonymous.  A notification is sent to the family if the gift is a memorial.  The Fund also acknowledges gifts recognizing special occasions, individuals, and organizations.

Since its founding in 1990, the NBCSF has received contributions from more than 1,650 individuals and organizations in amounts from a $2.00 memorial to a gift of more than $700,000 in real estate.

          HOW DOES A STUDENT APPLY?

Applications are available annually mid-December to the April deadline (usually the first Friday) online at www.nbcsf.org, at the NBHS Student Services and N B public library. A candidate completes only one form to be eligible for all programs for which he/she might qualify.

WHAT ARE THE SELECTION CRITERIA?

The Selection Committee may consider one or more of the following: ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, SPECIAL MERIT and FINANCIAL NEED.  Some awards also have very specific additional requirements.

WHEN ARE AWARDS ANNOUNCED?

Current NBHS seniors are notified at the NBHS spring awards ceremony.  Past NBHS graduate awardees are notified through the mail during the following week. All other applicants are notified of their status within the following week.
